Metro Atlanta Law Enforcement Agencies Join Forces To Provide More Than 27,000 Meals Through Food Force

Metro Atlanta Law Enforcement Agencies Join Forces To Provide More Than 27,000 Meals Through Food Force
ATLANTA, GA (Sept. 1, 2026) – Metro Atlanta law enforcement agencies came together Tuesday at the Atlanta Community Food Bank for Food Force, a collaborative effort that brought public safety personnel outside their traditional roles to help address food insecurity across the region. Together, participants processed 32,525 pounds of food, equating to 27,104 meals for individuals and families in need.
The effort brought together members of the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, Cobb County Police Department, Austell Police Department, MARTA Police Department, Brookhaven Police Department and Dunwoody Police Department, along with the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Five of the participating agencies also took part in a three-week fundraising competition leading up to the event, collectively raising $3,426 to support the food bank and help provide more than 10,000 meals.
During the volunteer event, participants worked in the Food Bank's Hunger Action Center to sort and organize food for distribution through the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s network of partner organizations. Volunteers also packed food boxes for home delivery to those who are unable to visit a food pantry in person.
The day's total included 26,334 pounds of food processed through the Hunger Action Center, equating to 21,945 meals, and 6,191 pounds processed through the Community Food Center, equating to 5,589 meals. The combined effort reflects the impact of agencies working together to serve the communities they protect and demonstrates that law enforcement's role extends beyond responding to calls for service.
Food insecurity is a community issue that directly affects the families law enforcement serves every day. The Atlanta Community Food Bank serves a 29-county area where more than 525,000 Georgians experience food insecurity, including one in nine neighbors and one in six children. By partnering with the Atlanta Community Food Bank, law enforcement agencies were able to address a basic need through an organization with an established network for getting food directly to individuals and families who need it most. Food Force also provided an opportunity for agencies to work together outside their traditional public safety roles, reinforcing that protecting a community also means helping address the challenges that affect the people who live in it.
