Cobb Sheriff's Office Highlights Innovation and Community Impact During 2026 Community Briefing
The Cobb County Sheriff's Office welcomed community members, elected officials, law enforcement partners and Citizens Academy participants to its first Community Briefing of 2026, highlighting recent accomplishments, innovative initiatives and continued efforts to strengthen public safety and community engagement.
The evening was emceed by Communications Manager Hassan Glenn and opened with a prayer from Chaplain Sherman Scott, followed by the Presentation of Colors by the Sheriff's Office Honor Guard and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Exceptional Futures. In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, Exceptional Futures—a nonprofit serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities—joined the Sheriff's Office as it celebrated one year of its partnership with KultureCity, reinforcing the agency's commitment to creating a more sensory-inclusive environment for the community.
One of the evening's most memorable moments came when Communications Specialist Randi Okray recognized Sgt. Jameel Fraser for his quick thinking and extraordinary service earlier that morning. After being flagged down by a pedestrian, Sgt. Fraser discovered a woman in active labor trapped in traffic. Realizing the urgency of the situation, he safely transported the expectant mother and her family to the hospital with lights and sirens, where they welcomed a healthy baby shortly after arriving. Attendees applauded Sgt. Fraser for his calm leadership and lifesaving response.
Sheriff Craig D. Owens Sr. then delivered the Community Briefing presentation, providing updates on major agency accomplishments, ongoing initiatives and future priorities. The presentation highlighted organizational growth, community partnerships, public safety innovations and the Sheriff's Office's continued investment in serving Cobb County with excellence.
Following the Sheriff's presentation, attendees participated in a question-and-answer session, allowing community members to engage directly with agency leadership.
The program also featured a special presentation from Latino Liaison Carlos Garcia and members of the International Federation of Police Chaplains, who recognized Sheriff Owens for his leadership and service.
The evening concluded with Lt. Col. Elisha Brown and Sgt. Jason Church recognizing graduates of the Cobb County Sheriff's Office Citizens Academy. Graduates were celebrated for completing the program, which provides residents with an in-depth look at the Sheriff's Office's operations, specialized units and commitment to public service.
Following the ceremony, Citizens Academy participants attended their final instructional session featuring the Special Operations Division and explored a static display of specialized equipment outside the auditorium.
The Community Briefing reflected the Sheriff's Office's ongoing commitment to transparency, innovation and building meaningful relationships with the community it serves.
