Cobb County Sheriff's Office Celebrates Leadership at Promotional Pinning Ceremony

The Cobb County Sheriff's Office hosted its Promotional Pinning Ceremony on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, recognizing seven leaders who earned promotions through their dedication, professionalism, and commitment to serving the citizens of Cobb County.

Major Yaminah Holt served as the mistress of ceremonies, welcoming attendees and opening the program with greetings on behalf of Sheriff Craig D. Owens, Sr. The ceremony began with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by an opening prayer from Pastor Purvis.

Executive Command Staff, including Sheriff Owens., Chief Deputy Rhonda W. Anderson, Assistant Chief Gina V. Hawkins, Chief of Staff David Jones, and Legal Advisor Flynn Broady, Jr., joined the ceremony on stage as family members, colleagues, and supporters gathered to celebrate the agency's newest supervisors.

During the formal promotion ceremony, Sheriff Owens directed the publication of each promotion order before Major Holt read the official orders. Each promotee was pinned by a loved one, highlighting the important role family members play in supporting those who serve.

The following members were recognized:

  • Sergeant Carlos Mathis, pinned by his daughter

  • Sergeant Brent Floyd, pinned by his wife

  • Sergeant David McBurnett, pinned by his mother

  • Sergeant Jamal Johnson, pinned by his mother

  • Lieutenant Joshua Allred, pinned by his wife

  • Captain Le'Shell Williams, III, pinned by his wife

  • Lieutenant Colonel Elisha Brown, pinned by his wife

Following the presentation of promotions, Chief Anderson delivered closing remarks, recognizing the accomplishments of each newly promoted leader and the responsibilities that accompany their new roles.

The ceremony concluded with the Sheriff's Office's traditional Receiving Line, a tradition established under Sheriff Owens' administration to formally welcome newly promoted supervisors into leadership. Each promotee proceeded through the receiving line while being congratulated by Executive Command Staff.

Pastor Purvis closed the evening with a prayer and blessing over the reception before guests gathered to celebrate with the newly promoted leaders and their families.

The Promotional Pinning Ceremony honored the leadership, dedication, and service of seven Sheriff's Office members while recognizing the families and support systems that contribute to their success. The ceremony reaffirmed the agency's commitment to developing servant leaders who will mentor, guide, and inspire the next generation of deputies.
