Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Hosts Private Memorial Event to Remember Fallen Deputies


MARIETTA, GA (Sept. 6, 2023) -- The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a memorial event to commemorate the lives of two fallen deputies who were killed in action on Sept. 8, 2022. Deputy Jonathan Koleski and Deputy Marshall Ervin, Jr. were shot and killed while attempting to serve a warrant at a residence in Marietta, Georgia. 

What: The memorial event will feature the unveiling of a mural painted by Tivani Brundage, a military veteran, and wooden chairs built by Saving a Hero’s Place, a nonprofit organization that is committed to honoring the memories of law enforcement and firefighters who have passed away while on duty. Featured speakers will include Sheriff Craig Owens, Chief Deputy Rhonda Anderson, Col. Ryan Mehling, Col. Michael A. Williams, and Bishop Eldren Morrison, senior pastor of Shaw Temple. This event is not open to the public. 

When: Friday, Sept. 8 | 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. | Media check-in: 9:30 a.m. to 9:50 a.m.

Where: Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Center | 1825 County Services Pkwy | Marietta, GA 30008 

Why: The death of Deputy Koleski and Deputy Ervin Jr. significantly impacted our organization. This memorial tribute is an opportunity for us to come together as a family and reflect.
