Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Hosts "Operation Holiday Honor: A Path to New Beginnings"
Supporting Veterans with Care, Resources, and Opportunities
MARIETTA, GA (Dec. 10, 2024) – The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a special program aimed at providing valuable resources and educational opportunities to military veterans booked in the Adult Detention Center. The initiative will offer information on transitioning back into civilian life with benefits and services available to veterans, and skills development that can aid in reintegration.
Who: Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, United Military Care, Georgia Department of Veteran Services, Mentors of Veterans in Treatment Court, and Vietnam veteran Dan Hydrick.
What: A program designed to assist detainee veterans by offering them critical knowledge about available veteran benefits, reentry programs, and life skills training that can help them reintegrate into society post-release. The session will also include guest speakers, discussions on improving mental and physical well-being and the distribution of backpacks for their release, containing essential care package items.

Why: The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office is committed to ensuring that veterans within the corrections system are provided the tools and knowledge they need to successfully transition back to civilian life. Sheriff Owens is a retired command sergeant major, having served more than 30 years in the Armed Forces. He has made it a priority to hire veterans and support justice-impacted veterans in the Adult Detention Center.
