Support Services

Support Services is staffed by a complement of sworn officers and civilian employees. The division is responsible for a broad number of support functions that are integral to every division within the agency. The Support Services Division is comprised of the following sections:

Accounting

The Accounting Section handles all primary financial services for the Agency. In addition to the routing, receipting, and disbursement of funds related to Sheriff’s Office operations, the Accounting Section receipts and processes child support payments in all cases where the Courts have determined that the supporting parent is subject to immediate arrest if payment is not made. The Accounting Section also handles all procurement processes for the agency and is integrally involved in the bi-annual budgeting process.

Auditing

The Sheriff’s Office employs an accountant whose primary responsibility is to conduct routine audits of all financial accounts and agency operations. This internal audit function helps to insure that all operations are conducted effectively and efficiently. These audits provide agency managers with the information needed to assess current operations and implement new programs.

Bonding Administration

Bond Administration is the section that approves and monitors bonding companies writing bonds at the Cobb County Adult Detention Facilities. This section also process all bonding paperwork for everyone released from custody. A list of these bonding companies is provided on this web site.

Fingerprinting

The Fingerprinting Section handles the task of printing individuals for civil and some isolated criminal purposes. These purposes include:

  • Adoptions
  • Firearm Permits
  • Employment

Human Resources

The Human Resources Section processes all paperwork involving Sheriff’s Office employees. This unit deals with issues such as processing new-hire paperwork, leave, medical issues, disciplinary actions, workers compensation, benefits, reassignments and transfers, separation from service, etc. These individuals also act as liaison to the County Human Resources Department.

North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy

Cobb County sponsors a regional training academy which services the law enforcement training needs for a number of surrounding counties. The Academy is governed by an Advisory Board made up of officials from the agencies served and is organized under the Sheriff’s Office for administrative purposes.

Property

The Equipment Section operates under the direction of the office business manager. This section is responsible for maintaining and issuing all clothing, equipment and supplies utilized by the agency.

Raffles

This section is also responsible for the issuance of raffle permits. By Georgia law (O.C.G.A. 16-12-22.1), anyone conducting a raffle must first obtain a license issued by the sheriff of the county.
