COBB COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

PRESS RELEASE

Suspect Arrested for Internet Fraud

On Friday, September 26th at approximately 8:30 am, Cobb County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested an individual who had been under investigation for the past three months regarding  internet fraud.   James Raymond 40 years of age, of Douglasville, Georgia was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with two counts of Theft By Deception.

According to Sheriff Neil Warren, Investigators have received over 400 complaints from people all over the United States who said they believed they were victims of a scam.  Working with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the initial investigation reveals that Mr. Raymond had defrauded victims of approximately $1 million dollars.  The case is still an active and an ongoing investigation.  Mr. Raymond is currently in custody at the Cobb County Jail on a $2 million dollar cash bond.

Warren stated.  “My advice to the citizens of Cobb County is that if you are selling anything over the internet and receive a check greater than the asking price, be cautious.  Never wire funds to compensate for overpayment.  During these difficult economic times, unfortunately crimes of this nature may be more prevalent.  I caution you to take the extra effort to verify that anyone you are conducting business with is legitimate. However, if you believe that you may be a victim of this or any other type of fraudulent action, please contact the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Fraud Unit at 770-499-4752.
