COBB COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE PRESS RELEASE
Sheriff Deputies Arrest More Construction Workers
As the Cobb County Sheriff’s
Office continues to run criminal background checks on individuals working on
the new Cobb County Courthouse, two more were arrested on Thursday, August 5th
at approximately 4:00 pm. Ray Lee
Roberts, Jr. 29 yoa,
was wanted by Bartow
County on a Probation
Violation Warrant. Lambert Williams, 31 yoa, was also wanted on a Bartow County warrant for not paying child
support. Two other workers were previously
apprehended on Monday, August 2nd when it was discovered that they
had outstanding warrants from other counties.
According to Sheriff Neil Warren,
the Sheriff’s Office has received about 717 applications for criminal back
ground checks from Turner Construction.
To date, approximately 237 have been completed. As stated on Monday, Sheriff Warren said
that the new courthouse had reached the stage where it will be connected to
the existing judicial complex and the time has come to run criminal history
background checks on individuals working within the secured facility, much
like he did with construction workers building the new jail. “Occasionally some workers may have
outstanding warrants for aggravated assault, terroristic threats or other
charges” said Sheriff Warren. “We
have a responsibility to the public, the judicial system and the citizens of Cobb County
to make sure this site is both safe and secure.
The Sheriff’s Office continues to
conduct criminal background checks on all workers that will have access to
the Court Complex.
