COBB COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE PRESS RELEASE
Sheriff’s Office to Enhance Security
at Construction Site
The Cobb County Sheriff's Office
has announced this afternoon that it will be working in close cooperation
with the Cobb's Board of Commissioners to begin the process of implementing a
more formal security process for the county's new courthouse project.
Construction on the new
courthouse has progressed to the stage where it will be connected to the
existing judicial campus. Considering the security needs of the courts and
the current progress of construction, the level of security screening for the
project and those working on the project will be enhanced.
“We have a responsibility to the
public, the judicial system and the citizens of Cobb County
to make sure this site is both safe and secure,” said Cobb County Sheriff
Neil Warren. “Our focus is on ensuring that every worker on the site has gone
through a complete background check.”
These new security requirements
will be phased in by the Sheriff's Office beginning this week.
“The county has worked closely
with Turner Construction to make sure that all employment verifications
required by state law have been met,” County Manager David Hankerson said. “Our Board of Commissioners have listened
to the public and made this issue a high priority.”
The new courthouse is expected to
be completed at the end of the year.
