COBB COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

PRESS RELEASE

Fugitive from Justice located in Cobb County Jail

On Wednesday, June 4, 2008, while processing a female into the Cobb County Jail, Sheriff’s Deputies discovered that an outstanding warrant had been issued for her arrest in another state.  Christal Gonzales Rivera, a/k/a Courtney Juana,  37 yoa, was wanted by the Fulton County Police Department in Fulton County, Kentucky as a  suspect  in a murder that occurred in October, 2007.

According to Sheriff Neil Warren, Rivera was arrested on traffic charges in Cobb County for driving without a license and improper lane change.  “As part of the normal booking procedure” stated Warren, “deputies conducted a criminal background check on Rivera, obtained her fingers prints and photograph. In addition, as with all foreign born nationals brought into our custody, Rivera’s information was run through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security‘s Automated Biometric Identification System (IDENT). The result of this check showed that Inmate Rivera’s real name was Courtney Juana.”

“As I have said previously”, Warren further commented, “it is my duty to know who is in my custody and who I am releasing into the community.  By having access to every available resource at our disposal, our staff was able to identify and prevent the release of an individual wanted for murder in another state.”

Ms. Juana is currently in custody in the Cobb County Jail awaiting extradition to Kentucky.
