On Thursday, June 2, 2011, at approximately
9:00 am, a phone call to 911 indicated that there was an incendiary device
that had been placed in the Cobb County State Court Building located at 12
East Park Square. The Cobb County
Sheriff’s Office coordinated the immediate evacuation of State Court
personnel and members of the public. “As Sheriff my number one priority is to
protect the elected officials, employees and people conducting business in
the Judicial Complex” stated Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren. “With the assistance of the Marietta Police
Department, we were able to secure the perimeter around the building and began
searching the building. According to
Sheriff Neil Warren, the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Explosive Detection K-9
and the Marietta Fire Department conducted a search of the building and
detected a small fire on the 3rd floor of the building in the men’s
restroom. The fire was quickly extinguished
and no one was injured during the incident.
Around 11:00 am, employees and the public were allowed to reenter the
building and resume normal business. The Sheriff’s Office is currently
conducting an investigation as to who made the call to 911. No other information is available at this
