COBB COUNTY SHERIFF’S  OFFICE PRESS RELEASE

Fugitive Found in Cancun Mexico

            On Friday, May 30, 2008, at approximately 4:00 p.m., one of Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Most Wanted was located by law enforcement authorities in Cancun, Mexico.  Later that evening, Daniel Leon O’Neal, 37 yoa, was escorted by FBI Agents from Cancun to Miami, Florida where he was taken into custody without incident.

            The arrest of O’Neal concluded a nationwide search for him that began in November, 2006 when a warrant was issued for his arrest on charges of Child Molestation, Aggravated Sodomy, Incest, and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor.  Subsequently, another warrant was issued charging O’Neal with Inference with Custody.  According to that warrant, O’Neal removed his five year old son from the State of Georgia without the consent of the biological mother.  O’Neal is currently in custody in the Dade County Jail, Florida awaiting extradition for his return to Cobb County.  O’Neal’s son has been located and returned to his mother.

            The apprehension of Daniel O’Neal can be attributed to the cooperative   efforts of the Sheriff’s Fugitive Unit, the U.S. Marshal’s Southeast Regional Task Force, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Cancun Mexican Authorities.
