PRESS RELEASE

Deputies Respond to Security Breach

On Friday, January 23, 2009 at approximately 9:15 am, the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office locked down the State Court Judicial Building when they discovered an individual may have breached security.  Deputies detected what appeared to be a handgun in the jacket of an individual who had gone through the security checkpoint and entered the building.

“Within minutes of realizing there may have been a breach of security, Sheriff’s Office personnel reacted quickly and took all necessary precautions to protect the public, employees and Judges in the building” stated Sheriff Warren.  “When incidents such as this occur, it is a good opportunity to review policy and procedures to ensure that personnel acted accordingly.

A review of the video surveillance tapes show that the person in question exited the complex shortly after he entered.
