Cobb Law Enforcement Conduct Sex Offender Verification and
Compliance On Tuesday,
January 18, 2011 between the hours of 5:00 pm and 2:00 am, the Cobb County
Sheriff’s Office Field Services Unit, the Georgia Department of Corrections
Marietta Probation Office and the Georgia State Pardons and Parole Office conducted
a countywide sex offender operation to verify the residences of registered sex
offenders and home contact with their probationers and parolees. There are approximately 300 registered sex
offenders living or working in Cobb. Last night’s joint effort resulted in 77
attempts with 61 confirmed residence verifications and offender supervision
contacts. Eight individuals were
arrested for charges ranging from probation violation, failure to register as
sex offender and illegal drugs.
Attached is information of the 8 arrestees. Six are in the custody of Cobb County, one
in custody of Smyrna P.D. and the other in custody in Douglas County. According
to Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren, the Sheriff’s Office conducts random home
verifications throughout the year. “It
our job to ensure that all offenders are in compliance with O.C.G.A. 42-1-12 stated
Warren. “If an offender fails to comply
and does not register, an investigation is initiated and a warrant may be
sought through the Magistrate’s Office.
As far as
monitoring sex offenders on parole or probation, that is the responsibility
of the offender’s parole or probation officer. We all work together to
enhance our resources and target any offenders that might pose a threat to
our children or community”. Sheriff Warren encourages
parents to take the time to educate their children to be aware of their
surroundings and teach them to be cautious when meeting strangers. Residents may obtain information on Sex

or the Georgia Bureau of Investigations website at www.gbi.georgia.gov. The public may also register their e-mail
address with the Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Watch web site to be notified
if a registered sex offender moves within a mile radius of their location. #
