COBB COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

PRESS RELEASE

Sheriff’s Arrest Suspects for Identity Theft

On Thursday, January 8, 2009 at approximately 5:15 pm., Cobb County Sheriff’s Deputies, with the assistance of the Clayton County Police Department, executed a search warrant at 3069 Botany Drive, Jonesboro, GA..  As a result of the search, two individuals were arrested and charged with 100 counts of Identity Fraud.   Tiffany Vanessa Miley (28 yoa) and Robin Clayton Mars (31 yoa) of Jonesboro were taken into custody without incident.

Following several leads, Investigators in the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Forgery and Fraud Unit learned that Miley and Clayton may have been involved in a significant forgery and theft operation that involved over 100 victims.  Upon entering the residence, Deputies discovered a large number of stolen Driver’s Licenses, Social Security Cards, Passports, Credit Cards and Checkbooks that belonged to individuals from jurisdictions all over Georgia and other states.  The investigation continues and Deputies are working closely with other local and state law enforcement offices where victims reside.

According to Sheriff Warren, Identity Theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in Cobb County as well as throughout the country.  “It is imperative that the citizens of Cobb County realize the importance of protecting all personal credit or identification information.   Do not leave any unsecured items in your vehicle, locker or anywhere that could be easily or criminally accessed by others.”

Mars and Miley are currently being held in the Clayton County Jail on various charges. When released from Clayton, they will be transferred to Cobb County to face pending charges.  Sheriff’s Office Investigators will notify victims that their personal items have been located, are secured and that arrests have been made.
