On Saturday October 22, 2016 Andrea Mendez was arrested by the Cobb County Police and charged with Felony Cruelty to Children (Warrant# 16-W-9837) for injuries she had caused to her child. Mendez was released on bond on Tuesday November 15, 2016 and was granted permission to move back to Texas while out on bond. During the time Mendez was out on bond for the previous charge, the child succumbed to his injuries.
After further medical examination of the child and extensive law enforcement investigation, Andrea Mendez was indicted by a Cobb County Grand Jury for Malice Murder, Felony Murder (3 counts), Cruelty to Children in the First Degree (3 counts), Aggravated Battery, and Aggravated Assault on Tuesday July 19, 2018.
The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit and the United States Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force immediately started investigating and searching for Mendez at the address she had been granted permission to move to in Texas.
U.S. Marshals in McAllen, Texas had discovered that Mendez had left the residence she was granted permission to move to and Mendez had moved to Michigan. After investigating and searching for Mendez in Michigan it was revealed that Mendez had returned back to Texas during the last weekend of July 2018. Surveillance and investigation of known locations that Mendez frequented in Hidalgo County, Texas was conducted and on Wednesday August 1, 2018 Mendez was located in Mission, Texas.
Mendez was taken into custody without further incident and was taken to the Hidalgo County Jail in Texas to be extradited back to Cobb County. Mendez was processed into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on Tuesday August 21, 2018 waiting to face charges.
