School Resource Officers
In 1999 the Cobb County Sheriff's Office and the Cobb County School System began a pilot project
that involved placing a uniformed Sheriff’s deputy in Harrison High School as a school resource officer.
The program proved very successful and in 2001 was expanded to include three high schools.
Each Deputy Sheriff is assigned to a particular high school in the Cobb County School System. The mission for
each resource officer is:
Create and promote a safe environment for both students and faculty; Enforce the State laws, county ordinances, and school regulations; Foster educational programs and activities that will increase student knowledge of and respect for the law and function of law enforcement agencies; Coordinate and facilitate security for extracurricular activities held by the schools.
