Partners In Education
Partners in Education, PIE, is sponsored by the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce and the Cobb County Board of Education. The PIE program builds a relationship between the community and a school. The Sheriff's Office of Cobb County has selected Bells Ferry Elementary School as our partner in education.
Sergeant Charles Little and Deputy Sheriff Gavin Beasley lead the Sheriff's Office in this vital role. The relationship
allows the education of our community's young people.
The Cobb County Sheriff's Office is proud to be celebrating its 15th year as a "Partner in Education" with Bells Ferry Elementary School. We started our partnership in 1989 and in 1991 we received a national award for outstanding achievement in the program. Since that time, our partnership has had many memorable moments.
Each year Sheriff's Office personnel act as mentors for the students, mystery readers, and chaperones for field trips. Every year is started with our "Red Ribbon Week" celebration by providing an interactive drug/alcohol awareness program to the school. The Sheriff's Office supports the county "Character Education Program" by providing "Sheriff's Awards" every six weeks to students who display the character trait of the week. We actively participate in the school's Field Day.
The Sheriff's Office has also supported the school by providing food and gifts to needy school families during the holidays. Employees raised money for the school by operating a food booth at the North Georgia State Fair. In 2003, our employees efforts produced some $3,000 from this activity. The money was donated to the Bells Ferry Elementary School. In the past 12 years the Sheriff's Office and its co-partners have donated thousands of dollars to the school to purchase educational and support material.
The Sheriff's Office also provides instructors to teach the Junior Achievement program to the 4th and 5th grade. Each year we take 20-25 5th grade students to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center to participate in the Consequences of Crime Program.
None of these things would be possible if it were not for the faculty, staff, and administration of the school. They have opened their doors and made the school extremely accessible to us. This has created an atmosphere of cooperation that has encouraged both personal friendships as well as the partnership.
